Cats scratch sofas with velvet fabric because the texture of the fabric provides a satisfying sensation for them. The soft and plush nature of velvet fabric allows cats to sink their claws in and stretch their muscles, which is a natural behavior for them. Additionally, the act of scratching helps cats to mark their territory and maintain the health of their claws. Therefore, the combination of the texture and the functional benefits of scratching makes velvet sofas an attractive target for cats. **
